Zac Gallen Is Quickly Approaching Elite MLB History
Arizona Diamondbacks‘ Zac Gallen would be a Cy Young candidate in the National League if it wasn’t for Sandy Alcantara‘s all-around greatness.
The best and most exciting part of all is that he is making a case with a strong late push in recent games.
The talented right-hander is currently enjoying an ongoing 41.1-inning scoreless streak as we speak: yes, he hasn’t allowed any earned runs in his last six starts.
Take a moment and let that sink in: it has been a truly amazing run.
Gallen is on the cusp of making some history.
He is slated to take the mound again on Sunday, against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
Gallen Has Become Matchup-Proof Thanks To His Recent Performance
It’s definitely a tough matchup, for sure, but the way he has been pitching, he could take the ball in the sun and still toss seven scoreless frames.
If he throws one more scoreless frame, he would break the franchise record, set by Brandon Webb in 2007 with 42.
But he has many more names in front of him that are reachable this season.
“Longest scoreless inning streaks in MLB history: Orel Hershiser: 59 IP (1988); Don Drysdale: 58 IP (1968); Bob Gibson: 47 IP (1968); Zack Greinke: 45 2/3 IP (2015); Carl Hubbell: 45 1/3 IP (1933); Sal Maglie: 45 IP (1950); Brandon Webb: 42 IP (2007); ZAC GALLEN: 41 1/3 IP (ACTIVE),” CBS Sports tweeted.

Gallen’s resolve will be tested in the month of September.
He has had an incredible season, with an 11-2 record and a 2.42 ERA in 152.2 innings.
He has an excellent 40/152 BB/K ratio, too, so his success isn’t the product of good fortunes.
Gallen is taking the next step towards ace status, and he is blossoming right before our eyes.
