Yordan Alvarez Making An MVP Case With 1 Stat

In the American League, the spotlight is usually on New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and his 25 home runs so far.

And he deserves it, to be honest: he is having one of the best seasons in modern Yankees history.

But Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez is, slowly but surely, putting together an incredibly strong campaign.

In fact, he has a strong case to be the hottest and best hitter in the AL this season, even above Judge.

With two home runs in Wednesday’s early game against the New York Mets (so far: they are still playing at the moment of writing this piece), Alvarez is up to 21.

He is very, very close to Judge, and both appear to be well-above the field in the junior circuit.

With the two home runs, Alvarez’s OPS reached some incredible levels.

Incredible Numbers

He produced an out after the tweet was sent, and his real-time OPS is currently at 1.069.

It’s been an incredible season by a world-class slugger from the left side of the plate.

Alvarez may not have too much defensive value, which could hurt him in an MVP race, but he sure can hit a baseball far.

He is currently hitting .317/.408/.661 with the 21 blasts, 45 runs scored, and 51 RBI.

He is on pace to reach the first 40-homer season of his young career, and will likely eclipse the 100-RBI mark as long as he remains healthy.

With two knee surgeries already under his belt and a large frame, he is a moderate injury risk, but make no mistake: he is looking like the most dominant hitter in the league these days.
