Yankees Fan Sums Up The Frankie Montas Situation

On Friday, the New York Yankees and veteran right-hander Frankie Montas agreed on a settlement of $7.5 million for 2023, thus avoiding arbitration.
However, the next day, some bad news came for the Yankees and their fans when it was revealed that Montas would be missing at least the first month of the 2023 season due to right shoulder inflammation.
The 29-year-old was acquired from the Oakland Athletics at the trade deadline in 2022 as a means to improve the starting rotation.
However, Montas struggled in a Yankees uniform, posting a 6.35 ERA in eight starts.
On Twitter, a Yankees fan summed up the reality of the Montas trade and how it ultimately has hurt the team.
Honestly, Frankie Montas has got to be one of the worst trades Brian Cashman has ever made. On the heels of the IKF/ Donaldson trade, it was a tough year of trades for the Yankees GM.

The right-hander finished the season with a 5-12 record and a 4.05 ERA in 27 starts.
In the end, 2022 was a tough year for the Yankees in terms of trades.
In addition to the Montas trade, the Yankees made a deal with the Minnesota Twins, trading away Gio Urshela and Gary Sanchez to land Josh Donaldson and Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, both of whom are not terribly popular in the Bronx as of now.
Needless to say, fans are frustrated with General Manager Brian Cashman for making these two trades, particularly the Montas trade in light of the recent news.
Still, New York possesses a powerful starting rotation that features Carlos Rodon, Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes, and Luis Severino.
While they wait for Montas to recover, it’s very possible that somebody like Clarke Schmidt could step up and take over the fifth starter spot.
