Baseball is a game full of competition.

When two rivals play each other, the intensity is heightened.

The two teams don’t usually like each other and are playing for keeps.

But that doesn’t mean that there can’t be some friendliness beyond the white lines.

On Tuesday, prior to the MLB All-Star Game, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso and Atlanta Braves third base coach Ron Washington were shown doing a little practice on short hops.

Washington was hitting Alonso some short hops at first base as he tried to improve his defense a little bit.

Talkin’ Baseball tweeted a video of Washington and Alonso working together.

Washington Shares Knowledge With Alonso

Here we’ve got two division rivals working together for the love of the game.

It’s nice to see that they could set the rivalry between the Mets and Braves aside for just a bit and share a moment.

Washington is one of those guys in baseball that you can’t not like.

He’s got great energy and is a fun guy to be around, but also understands how the game truly works.

He’s one of those guys whose old school approach is still effective in today’s game.

He’s somebody that players have always looked up to and somebody who can offer great insight on how the game is played.

Alonso made sure to soak that in and spend a little time with one of baseball’s greatest minds.

It’s always nice to see young players soaking in knowledge from older guys who understand the game and all its ins and outs.

They set aside the competition and took a moment to not only bond, but help improve Alonso’s game.
