Video Shows Johnny Cueto’s Perfect Marlins Introduction

A little over a week ago, it was reported that the Miami Marlins had signed veteran right-hander Johnny Cueto to a one-year, $6 million contract with a $10.5 million club option for 2024.

The Marlins already had a deep and talented pitching staff, but adding Cueto is probably a sign that a trade for one of their young stars will come eventually.

Miami desperately needs to add some talented hitters, and they could flip Pablo Lopez, Trevor Rogers, Edward Cabrera, or Sixto Sanchez.

Back to Cueto, though.

The seasoned pitcher, who will be 37 when Opening Days rolls around, is trying to show he still belongs in MLB.

He had a unique introduction to his life as a Marlin, and of course, we have the video for you.

Cueto walked to the mound with the Dominican Republic flag wrapped around his body, as “bachata” was played at LoanDepot Park.

He then greeted the cameras and started dancing to the music.

Love it or hate it, you can’t deny that the man has style and flair.

Do you know what he also has?

A few good years left in him.

That’s what the Marlins are shooting for.

In 2022 with the Chicago White Sox, he made 24 starts and pitched 158.1 innings.

His ERA was a solid 3.35, and he finished with 2.4 Wins Above Replacement (WAR).

He only struck out 102 hitters, but he also kept his walks in check at just 33.

At this point, Cueto is a contact manager, but a very good one at that.

His fastball averages about 91.5 mph these days, a far cry from the 94 he used to average back in the day.

Still, he knows how to hit his spots and exploits hitters’ weaknesses.

He is a true pitcher instead of a thrower, and those still have value for MLB teams.
