Much is left to be desired from San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance‘s performance in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears.

The second-year player from North Dakota State finished with 13 completions for 164 yards and an interception.

Aside from failing to throw a touchdown pass, he completed only 46.4 percent of his passes (28 attempts).

The hard rain might have been a factor in his dismal numbers and the 49ers’ loss to the Bears.

However, Lance’s current trajectory is typical among some current starters.

NFL on CBS tweeted about QBs with similar numbers through three career starts.

Lance has 605 passing yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.

He finished with 15 completions for 192 yards and a pick in his first-ever NFL start.

Unfortunately, the 49ers lost to the Arizona Cardinals, 17-10.

Meanwhile, his first win as a starter was against the Houston Texans, wherein he had 16 completions for 249 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

On the other hand, Matthew Stafford had 598 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions in his first three starts.

He won Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams last season.

Josh Allen had 592 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Currently, Allen navigates the high-powered Buffalo Bills offense and is one of the top candidates for Most Valuable Player.

Finally, Derek Carr had 588, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.

He led the Las Vegas Raiders to the playoffs last year and received a three-year, $121.5 million contract extension this offseason.

Will Lance Develop Into Any Of Those Quarterbacks?

Football fans, especially those of the 49ers, should give him a longer leash.

Aside from having three career starts, the Niners have just started their season.

Lance and the 49ers can bounce back in Week 2 when they face the Seattle Seahawks.

He should feel more comfortable, now that he will be playing at Levi’s Stadium.
