For the first time since 2016, it looks like the New York Mets will be getting a taste of October baseball.

After briefly falling out of first place in the NL East, the Mets quickly rebounded and regained the lead.

Now, their magic number to clinch a postseason berth sits at just eight.

The Mets are returning home after taking two out of three from the Miami Marlins.

They’ll have the Chicago Cubs for three and the Pittsburgh Pirates for four, meaning that they have a good chance to potentially secure a playoff berth at home.

It would actually be their first major celebration at Citi Field of any kind if they were to accomplish it.

In 2015 and 2016, none of their clinchers, whether it be the division title, a playoff series win, or the NL Pennant, took place at home.

Mets Have A Chance For A First

It’s quite hard to believe that the Mets have never had a chance to celebrate a clincher at Citi Field.

You have to go all the way back to the Shea Stadium days to find a home clincher.

But the Mets finally have a chance to be able to do it at Citi Field.

It’s been a long time since the Mets were a powerhouse, but with their dominance this season, they have re-emerged as a legitimate postseason contender.

All Mets fans want is a World Series ring, but clinching a playoff berth at home would certainly be a good start.

Mets fans would have a chance to celebrate with their team for once.

The Mets are ahead of the Atlanta Braves by a game-and-a-half in the NL East.

That may still take a while, but their dream of returning to October is almost complete.
