The Commanders Are Interviewing A Former NFL HC

The Washington Commanders fired their offensive coordinator shortly after the conclusion of the regular season.

After finishing the season with an 8-8-1 record, the Commanders will look to their future under new offensive leadership, especially considering they only scored 18.9 points per game this season, their lowest team total since 2019.

Today, the Commanders announced that they are conducting another offensive coordinator interview.

Pat Shurmur is the latest interviewee for the Commanders.

Shurmur has 21 total years of NFL coaching experience, including two years as head coach for the Cleveland Browns, two years as head coach for the New York Giants, and most recently, two years as the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos.

Although Shurmur was fired from the Broncos, his career experience speaks for itself.

If hired by the Commanders, Shurmur could be an instigator of change for their offense, which has been somewhat lackluster for the past several seasons.

The Commanders have only made the playoffs twice in the past ten seasons, losing both of their playoff appearances.

The last time they won a playoff game was in 2005, and haven’t made it to the Super Bowl since 1991.

Whether or not it is Shurmur who will be the difference for this team remains to be seen, but in a division that’s becoming stronger by the year, the Commanders will need to do something drastic to turn their franchise around.

Besides the change to their offensive coordinator, the Commanders may also be making another change at quarterback, leaving the team with immense turnover heading into 2023.
