The St. Louis Cardinals are getting key contributions from their veteran superstars this season.

Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, and Adam Wainwright, are all turning back the clock and helping the Cardinals as they make a push towards October.

Yesterday, two of those three veterans carried the Cards to a 13-0 blowout victory over the Colorado Rockies as they finished off a three-game sweep.

Wainwright threw seven scoreless innings and Pujols had 5 RBI, including a pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the third.

In doing so, they helped the Cardinals become the first team in baseball history to have a 40-year-old throw seven or more scoreless innings and another 40-year-old hit a grand slam.

Pujols, Waino Combine For History

At 42 and 40, respectively, Pujols and Wainwright are proving that they still have what it takes to get the job done at the big-league level.

Wainwright remains the ace of the Cardinals pitching staff as he picked up his ninth win of the 2022 season.

As for Pujols, he hit home run No. 690 in style and is now just 10 homers away from hitting the 700 mark.

But this is some unprecedented history.

Cardinals fans are getting a nice blast from the past when they watch their three veteran stars go out there each day and continue to make history.

Pujols and Molina are retiring at the end of the year, and fans want nothing more than to see Pujols reach 700 career homers before he’s done.

As for Wainwright, he’s hinted at retirement, but with the way he’s pitching, he may stick around another year.

Regardless, Cardinals fans got a treat on Thursday when they got to see Pujols and Wainwright put on a show for the entire city of St. Louis.
