By now, even casuals know that Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani is the best in the world when we combine hitting and pitching talent.

No one in the history of the game has been able to perform both activities so well as he has in the same season.

Most people know that he is as powerful as they come, with 46 home runs in his MVP season in 2021 and 34 more last year.

He is also an ace on the mound, with a 100-mph fastball and a splitter-slider combo that yielded a 3.18 ERA in 2021 and a 2.33 mark this past campaign.

But his two-way dominance goes beyond home runs and ERA.

Basically, Ohtani takes his game up a notch when he encounters runners in scoring position.

That’s the mark of real stars.

Star-level pitchers are tougher to hit against when they have runners in scoring position.

Additionally, great hitters are at their best with runners on second and/or third.

A high slugging percentage with runners in scoring position will likely mean a lot of RBI because the batter reaches more bases and increased the odds of bringing them all home.

Ohtani is a beast, a true freak of nature.
