Ryan Poles’ Comments Don’t Give Clarity On QB Situation

Ryan Poles had his first ever post-season press conference for the Chicago Bears after their season ended on Sunday.
With the Bears holding the number one pick for 2023, people were asking Poles about his plans for the draft.
While everyone has their own idea about what Poles should do, he gave the press an odd answer.
The question started with his plans at the quarterback position.
With the team having Justin Fields, everyone wants to know if the Bears are drafting another quarterback or trading their pick.
Poles didn’t give a full committal to Fields, as he says he needs to be “absolutely blown away” to draft a quarterback.
When asked, Bears GM Ryan Poles said he plans on QB Justin Fields being the team’s starter next season.
He said that he has to be “absolutely blown away” to take a QB at No. 1.

While some see this as his way of committing to Fields, it’s actually easy for this 2023 quarterback class to blow away any general manager.
Young had 3,328 passing yards and 32 touchdowns against five interceptions during his 2022 season with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
His 86.2 QBR ranks him 6th among all other college quarterbacks.
However, his football IQ is amazing as uses this to make big plays, something that can blow Poles away.
He can make plays with his arm and feet, meaning he’s a likely upgrade over Fields.
With him possessing confidence and accuracy, it will be hard for Poles to pass up drafting him.
While some might not see him drafting Young, his words might have a different meaning than what others think.
With Young’s performance blowing away other NFL managers and coaches, it’s likely Poles is in the same boat.
If Poles gets the Alabama quarterback, people can look back at what he said in his press conference, knowing he was giving everyone a hint.
