Red Sox Reportedly Key In On A Veteran Free Agent

The Boston Red Sox have found themselves in a precarious position.

With Xander Bogaerts gone and Trevor Story out with an elbow injury, the team finds itself needing to dive back into the free agent market to find a replacement bat.

With Story out, they could potentially move super utilityman Enrique Hernandez to the shortstop position and ink another outfielder.

According to Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo, the team has had discussions with a veteran free agent outfielder.

Cotillo reports that the Red Sox are in the mix for slugger Adam Duvall and that a deal could come towards the end of the week.

Per sources, Red Sox remain in on Adam Duvall, as others have reported. Resolution could come this week with Sox or elsewhere. It does seem like a perfect fit in Boston, which views him as plenty capable of playing CF.

This would be a solid pickup for the Red Sox if they end up making it happen.

After losing Bogaerts, the team is in need of a little offensive firepower, something that Duvall can provide.

He could also potentially play some first base and spell Bobby Dalbec.

But a move like this could make sense for Boston.

The Red Sox finished 78-84 and came in last place in the AL East in 2022.

With Story out, Hernandez and Christian Arroyo are the likely internal options at the shortstop position.

Duvall could be a perfect fit if they choose to move Hernandez to shortstop.

The team has already added Masataka Yoshida, Justin Turner, Corey Kluber, and Kenley Jansen.

But a few more pieces may be needed if they plan on contending for a postseason spot in 2023.

They’ll have to deal with a strong AL East division, with teams such as the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.
