It isn’t surprising to see Baker Mayfield being named the Carolina Panthers‘ starter for Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.

After all, he is the best option on their depth chart because Sam Darnold faltered last year while P.J. Walker and Matt Corral are inexperienced.

Likewise, Mayfield is the only guy with a playoff victory among the lot.

But even before he officially became the team’s starter, the former Oklahoma standout was already ingratiating himself to the Panthers fanbase.

The Panthers’ faithful is now behind him now that he is tasked to lead them to victory.

For some reason, the NFL’s schedule-makers know how to create drama because they pitted Carolina against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 of the 2022 season.

It’s the squad that made Mayfield the first overall pick in 2018 and dropped him after trading for and signing Deshaun Watson.

Likewise, the Browns are still paying a big chunk of Mayfield’s $18.8 million salary for 2022.

Therefore, it must be a good feeling for him to get his paycheck and defeat his former team.

After all, they dropped him without giving him a fair chance.

People Wish For Mayfield’s Success In Carolina

Mayfield would like to make his stint with Carolina work for a couple of reasons.

First, he would like to rejuvenate a team that hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2017.

But even though he is starting anew, a lot of football fans are wishing for his success.

After all, you can’t help but admire a guy who played hurt at a body part that is considered essential for a quarterback.

Likewise, it’s easy to root for Mayfield after knowing what his replacement (Watson) did.

Now that he will get his chance again, he would like to turn the Panthers into a winner.
