The Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave quarterback Tom Brady a day off every Wednesday.

The 45-year-old quarterback welcomed that development by saying, “The fact that I have worked weekends the last 23 years, I do deserve one day off a week” on his podcast.

Meanwhile, MMQB Senior Content Strategist Albert Breer clarified that Brady will still be in the Buccaneers’ practice facility on Wednesdays for meetings and walkthroughs.

That day is important because their game plan usually comes in on Wednesday.

But things change quickly, and Brady will participate in a Wednesday practice after all.

NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport tweeted, “#Bucs QB Tom Brady is, in fact, practicing today, a new decision that Brady was OK with because he felt good enough. Coach Todd Bowles had said Monday that Brady and WR Julio Jones would have Wednesdays off. But that changed today.”

The Buccaneers need both players because they are undermanned at the moment.

Aside from Brady being their top play-caller, the Buccaneers have a thin rotation at wide receiver due to Chris Godwin‘s injury and Mike Evans‘ one-game suspension after an altercation with New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

Even Jones is nursing a knee injury, making him day-to-day for Week 3.

That’s why Tampa Bay signed Cole Beasley to their practice squad for extra personnel.

The Buccaneers Survived Both Games

It’s not that Brady and the Buccaneers are blowing out the opposition.

Instead, they have only averaged 19.5 points after Week 2.

That’s a far cry from their 31 points in the 2021 season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Tampa Bay could have lost one or both games if not for their defense.

That side of the ball has limited opponents to 6.5 points per game and one touchdown.

Their terrific play has masked their struggles on offense.
