Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson was already the fifth player selected at his position during the 2022 NFL Draft.

Those who heard their names before him were Drake London, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jameson Williams.

However, he did not get much attention during the offseason, and more people were talking about second-round pick George Pickens.

But the former Penn State standout put the league on notice after a 40-yard, two-touchdown performance in their season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While Antonio Gibson, Curtis Samuel, Terry McLaurin, and Logan Thomas had more yards than him, Dotson’s scoring catches were huge in Washington’s 28-22 victory.

That’s why Yahoo Sports football analyst Matt Harmon is already proclaiming Dotson as the next big thing.

Harmon tweeted, “Obviously, I was charting Curtis Samuel, but man, the other takeaway from that tape is a whole bunch of people ripped the Jahan Dotson pick, and they’re gonna need to walk that back. They just looked at big boards and didn’t watch him play. That guy is a 100% baller, and it’s not a shock.”

Dotson Kept Getting Better

He was included in the First-Team All-Big Ten during his final year of college football.

Dotson finished that season with 91 receptions, 1,183 yards, and 12 scores.

Those numbers are significantly higher than his 2020 totals of 52 catches, 884 yards, and eight touchdowns.

Therefore, he might be peaking at the right time, and he is yet to play his best football.

If that happens, Washington fans are in for a treat, and he should be a strong candidate for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Commanders will play the Detroit Lions in Week 2 and the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.

Those games are perfect opportunities for Dotson to establish himself as an up-and-coming star.
