MLB Shares Latest MVP Favorites Ahead Of The Break

The MVP race in MLB is already exciting, and we haven’t even reached the All-Star break.

There are lot of worthy candidates in both leagues, and there isn’t really one in particular standing out ahead of the pack.

MLB’s official Twitter account, in an attempt to engage with fans, tested the waters to see what they think regarding the MVP award in both leagues.

“Who’s your MVP as we approach the All-Star break?,” they asked, with the top five candidates in each league ranked.

MLB beat writers and contributors reach a consensus to update the MVP race monthly.

Meeting The Candidates

They have New York Yankees star Aaron Judge and his league-leading 30 home runs leading the race in the American League.

Shohei Ohtani and his contributions as a hitter and a pitcher are a close second, per MLB writers.

Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez and his incredible .306/.405/.653 line and 26 homers are third.

Third baseman Rafael Devers and Jose Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Guardians, respectively, are fourth and fifth.

In the National League, St. Louis Cardinals star Paul Goldschmidt has had a season for the ages, with a .332/.415/.591 line and 19 round-trippers.

He is considered the favorite to win so far.

Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres still leads the majors in Wins Above Replacement (WAR) with 4.5 and is ranked second by MLB.

Pete Alonso, Mookie Betts, and Austin Riley are leading the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Atlanta Braves to excellent records so far.

Goldschmidt should be viewed as the strongest candidate in the NL, and while Judge has been spectacular, Ohtani should win in the junior circuit as long as he remains a star in both hitting and pitching.
