The New York Yankees have been one of the winners of the trade deadline so far, with a little over a day to go.

They finally secured the services of talented right-handed starter Frankie Montas from the Oakland Athletics.

However, the trade comes with a twist: they also brought in reliever Lou Trivino to fortify the bullpen.

The Yanks, therefore, kill two birds with one stone.

As usual, Jeff Passan of ESPN provided confirmation for us.

“The New York Yankees are acquiring right-hander Frankie Montas and right-handed reliever Lou Trivino from the Oakland A’s, sources tell ESPN. First was Andrew Benintendi. Then was Scott Effross. And now the Yankees get Montas to join their rotation,” he tweeted.

Montas and Trivino are the third and fourth major acquisitions for the Yankees, after Benintendi and Effross.

The outfielder was traded to New York last week, and the rest of the players were brought in to the Bronx on Monday.

Montas was one of the best pitchers available via trade.

He has a solid 3.18 ERA and a 3.36 Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) this year, in 104.2 innings.

Two Solid Pitchers For The Yankees

He has struck out 109 foes and has a cool 2.0 Wins Above Replacement (WAR).

Trivino is a 30-year-old right-handed reliever who has a 6.47 ERA, but with a much better 3.84 FIP.

The best thing is that the Yankees were able to secure the pair without giving up any of their top three prospects: Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza, and Jasson Dominguez.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yanks sent pitchers Ken Waldichuk, JP Sears, Luis Medina and second baseman Cooper Bowman to the A’s.

It has been the highest-profile deal of the day along with the Josh Hader one.
