MLB Insider Reveals A Possibility For Yuli Gurriel

The Houston Astros signed veteran first baseman Jose Abreu to a three-year contract at the beginning of the offseason, meaning that a reunion with slugger Yuli Gurriel is unlikely at this point.

But the 38-year-old might have a few takers.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Gurriel is a target for the Miami Marlins as they look to make improvements on the offensive side.

Gurriel had a tough season, hitting just .242 with eight home runs, but does possess some power that could benefit the team.

Heyman also reported that on Tuesday, Gurriel had breakfast with Marlins General Manager Kim Ng.

This could bode well for the Marlins.

Nothing is imminent, but the Marlins could use some extra power in their lineup.

Late on Tuesday, they lost veteran third baseman Brian Anderson to the Milwaukee Brewers.

The team is also stacked with starting pitching depth, but are lacking some production in their lineup beyond Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Jorge Soler had a down year in 2022 and the team could use some power.

This is where Gurriel comes in.

The fact that he has already had a breakfast with Ng could bode well for the Marlins as they look to boost their offensive production.

If Gurriel does not work out, then they could potentially trade a starting pitcher to add some offense.

Miami finished the regular season with a 69-93 record and came in fourth place in the National League East.

But with a little more offense, they could take some steps towards respectability.
