MLB Insider Provides Update On Trevor Bauer

The Trevor Bauer saga has been an interesting talking point in recent weeks.

MLB had suspended the veteran right-hander early in the 2022 season due to allegations of sexual assault.

The suspension was originally 324 games, but has since been reduced.

Bauer will still have to serve the first 50 games of the 2023 season, that is, if another team signs him.

Last week, the Los Angeles Dodgers chose to designate him for assignment.

However, USA Today’s top MLB insider Bob Nightengale provided an update on the Bauer situation.

Nightengale reports that the 31-year-old has officially cleared waivers and will now enter free agency.

And so, Bauer is officially out of Los Angeles.

The Dodgers were given until January 6 to decide whether or not to keep Bauer or let him go.

They could not find a team willing to trade for him.

Los Angeles will now eat the remaining $22.5 million on his contract.

Bauer signed a three-year, $120 million deal with the team prior to the 2021 season.

That contract included two opt-out clauses after each of the first two seasons.

The veteran right-hander and former Cy Young was placed on paid administrative leave when news broke of the allegations against him.

Though Bauer was not charged, MLB handed out a hefty suspension back in April.

Now, the baseball world will wait and see what happens with the embattled ace and whether or not a team will ultimately claim him.

In all likelihood, Bauer’s career is over, and no team will be willing to sign him.
