MLB Insider Breaks Down The Brandon Belt Signing

The Toronto Blue Jays have been busy this offseason.

After falling short in the American League Wild Card Series against the Seattle Mariners, the team added some key pieces.

They signed right-hander Chris Bassitt to a three-year deal and traded for outfielder and catcher Daulton Varsho.

They also signed outfielder Kevin Kiermaier.

Earlier this week, they brought in first baseman Brandon Belt to bolster their offense.

On Wednesday, MLB insider Jon Morosi stopped by MLB Network to discuss the Blue Jays’ latest move.

Morosi went on to talk about how Rogers Centre is a good ballpark for hitters.

Belt did not have a banner season in 2022, hitting just .213 during the regular season.

But with the shift gone and the dimensions at Rogers Centre favoring hitters, Belt could be a candidate for a bounce-back season.

The Blue Jays were also in need of some left-handed bats.

So far, they have found three and have been able to bolster an already prolific lineup.

Belt will obviously serve as a designated hitter with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. playing first base, but he could spell Guerrero for a day if necessary.

And there are some solid left-handed bats in the Blue Jays lineup now.

Belt, Kiermaier, Varsho, and Cavan Biggio give the team plenty of options from the left side of the plate, which helps balance out their right-handed heavy lineup.
