The New York Mets ultimately missed out on star shortstop Carlos Correa.

Just as it had been with the San Francisco Giants, the deal fell through as a result of the two-time All-Star’s physical.

The 2017 World Series champion is now headed back to the Minnesota Twins, to the shock of many.

But while many Mets fans are enraged and having a very bad day, one has already moved on and is thinking about other options.

On Twitter, one Mets fan made a post saying that the team should seriously consider Trey Mancini if they want to add another bat to their lineup.

Mancini would not be a bad fit in New York and could be the perfect fallback option for the Mets after missing out on Correa.

No, Mancini doesn’t have nearly the same upside as Correa, but he does have some power and is not too far removed from a 35-homer season in 2019 during his time with the Baltimore Orioles.

During the 2022 season, Mancini hit just .239, but still managed to hit 18 home runs.

He was acquired from the Orioles by the Houston Astros at the trade deadline and ended up winning his first World Series ring as a result.

The Mets look to be on a similar trajectory, even in the wake of losing Correa to the Twins.

New York is coming off of a 101-win season and is hungry for more as the 2023 season draws nearer.

We’ll see if the Mets decide to pivot to Mancini after the events of today.
