Sometime in the next few weeks, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all-time scoring champion in the NBA.

This is obviously a massive honor and a huge accomplishment that shows James’ impact on the game and how hard he has played since his first game 20 seasons ago.

But records are always made to be broken and eventually someone will pass by James just like he passed by Abdul-Jabbbar.

Speaking about the player who might someday become the next all-time scoring leader in the league, James mentioned a very likely candidate: Kevin Durant.

“KD’s the first name that comes to mind for sure,” James said.

He added, “His name is not “Easy Money” and “Slim Reaper” for no reason.”

James mentioned how effortless and easy Durant makes it all look and how he is able to shoot twos and threes and score 80 to 90% from the free-throw line.

James thinks it’s very possible that Durant might sit at the top of the list someday.

But he also tossed in the names of Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo as others who could someday lead the association in points.

James currently has 37,965 points just a few hundred behind Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387.

That means that unless something crazy happens, he should be scoring the historic point within the next few weeks, possibly even at home at Crypto.com Arena.

As for Durant, he has scored 26,684.

Of all the people James mentioned, Durant definitely has the best chance of becoming the top scorer, but he will need to stay healthy in order to do so.

James is about to do something incredible but he is well aware that this accomplishment won’t last forever.
