New York Giants fans held their breath when rookie edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux fell onto the ground while clutching his knee.

It is a sight they don’t want to see, especially to a promising player like him.

It looked like things turned for the worst after Thibodeaux was left laying on the field after a cut block by Cincinnati Bengals tight end Thaddeus Moss.

But a collective sigh of relief emerged when Thibodeaux waved off the cart and walked to the sideline with only a slight limp.

By the looks of it, the former Oregon standout won’t need surgery on his knee.

After all, walking without any crutches is a positive sign.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan tweeted, “‘I’m good. … We’re good. Good news.’ Would be collective sigh of relief for Giants.”

That update means Thibodeaux will be ready for their final preseason game against the New York Jets.

However, it’s possible that the Giants will shut him down in that game as a pre-emptive measure.

They cannot afford another scare because they would rather have him during the regular season.

Lofty Goals For Thibodeaux

Giants fans hope that the fifth overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft can help turn the team’s fortunes around.

It’s been six seasons since they last made the playoffs and 11 years since their last playoff victory which happened to be Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots.

The franchise is looking at Thibodeaux to be their next great pass rusher after Lawrence Taylor and Michael Strahan.

But before putting his name in the same sentence as those greats, there’s one record that he would like to break.

That’s why in 2022, he will be aiming for the Giants’ franchise rookie record of 8.5 sacks set by teammate Azeez Ojulari last year.
