Uncertainty looms above the New York Jets coming into the 2022 NFL season.

First, offensive lineman Mekhi Becton will sit out their upcoming campaign due to a knee injury that requires surgery.

Now, it’s quarterback Zach Wilson who might have to wait before taking the field.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini previously tweeted, “BREAKING: Zach Wilson’s arthroscopic knee surgery was deemed a success, source tells ESPN. There were no surprises from the original diagnosis. They won’t put him on the field until he’s 100%, but good news for the Jets.”

Therefore, Wilson will eventually return within the season but it did confirm a scenario that Jets fans have already anticipated.

Cimini said in another tweet, “No specific timeline for Wilson’s return, but the fact that there were no surprises from the original diagnosis (meniscus tear) suggests it won’t be an extended period on the sideline. Have to believe it’ll be Flacco in Wk 1.”

Given the indefinite timetable that comes with knee injuries, it might take a while before Wilson returns for the team that selected him second overall in the 2021 draft.

It is also a chance for Joe Flacco to solidify his role as the starter and make Mike White the backup.

Jets Going With The Experienced Hand

In his lengthy career, the former Delaware standout has had experience as a starter for the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos.

In 2020, Flacco started four games for the Jets and finished with 864 yards to go with six touchdowns.

Last season, he started one out of two games played after he was traded back by the Philadelphia Eagles to the Jets.

This time, he will get to become the Week 1 starter again and it’s a special moment because it will be against his former team, the Ravens.

The Jets hope that Flacco can help turn their fortunes around.
