Frankie Montas Comments On The Trade Rumors

The 37-63 Oakland Athletics are clearly going nowhere this year or next.

They are the worst team in the American League, and the only one without some hope of contending in the foreseeable future.

That’s why they are widely expected to trade star pitcher Frankie Montas ahead of the August 2 deadline.

It’s the perfect time to deal him: he is under control for a season-and-a-half, so he has some trade value and could fetch a nice return of prospects for Oakland.

One of the teams interested in Montas’ services is the New York Yankees.

The Yankees Are Very Much Interested In Montas

After Luis Severino went down with a lat strain, an opening in the rotation needs to be filled.

From a stuff standpoint, Montas would be a perfect replacement for Severino, and could represent a nice problem for the Bombers once everybody is healthy.

Lots of other squads could use a pitcher like Montas.

The pitcher himself spoke about the trade rumors surrounding him in recent days.

He is very much aware of the situation: he knows he is currently an Athletic, but he understands that the likelihood of getting traded is extremely high.

Failing to trade Montas and doing it after the season would mean the acquiring team would have him for just one playoff run as opposed to two, thus his value will be diminished.

The days before the deadline will be extremely exciting.
