After Fernando Tatis Jr. was suspended 80 games for PED use, the San Diego Padres star announced that he would be undergoing shoulder surgery.

Tatis was close to returning from his wrist injury when the suspension was handed down to him.

Now, with his 2022 season over before it even began, Tatis is focused solely on recovery so that he can be ready to go for 2023.

He underwent his shoulder surgery in Los Angeles, performed by famed surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune tweeted an update on the situation, confirming that the surgery on Tatis’ shoulder was complete.

Tatis’ Surgery Complete

Now, Tatis will focus on rehab as he sits out the rest of the 2022 season and an early chunk of the 2023 season.

The Padres’ star shortstop was already out with a wrist injury that he suffered in a motorcycle accident during the lockout.

He was originally expected to return at some point in June, but it took longer than expected.

Just two months later, he had begun his rehab assignment and was close to returning before he ended being suspended for his PED use.

No timetable has been revealed yet for Tatis’ recovery.

He had signed a record 14-year contract extension late last season.

Obviously, he hasn’t quite lived up to that deal, but his recovery should paint a clearer picture of what to expect next from the star shortstop.

The Padres have been without him all season long and have not missed a beat as they currently hold the third Wild Card spot in the National League.

Tatis will now begin his road to recovery amidst all the drama surrounding his PED suspension.
