Cubs Need To Target 2 Marlins Pitchers Who Are On The Trading Block

The Chicago Cubs are putting forth an effort during this offseason to make improvements going into 2023.
However, they haven’t fully addressed their pitching rotation.
With Kyle Hendricks nursing an injury, the starting rotation is a big question mark.
But another problem with Hendricks is his age, which might slow him down in 2023.
With him being their worst starting pitcher by ERA from 2022, they could use an upgrade in their rotation.
A splendid chance to make some upgrades is by making a trade with the Miami Marlins.
The team recently made it known they will part ways with some of their starting pitchers.
Two of the pitchers the Cubs should target are Edward Cabrera and Jesus Luzardo.

Big overhaul coming in that rotation (Sandy is staying)

Both players had a better ERA than Hendricks, as Cabrera had a 3.01 ERA and Luzardo had a 3.32 ERA.
With both pitchers being in their 20s, the Cubs will get a fresh arm for their rotation if they make a trade.
Adding Cabrera gives the Cubs plenty of upsides in a trade, as he’s locked in until 2029 with his contract.
He’s got a solid three-pitch arsenal which he used to strike out 75 batters in 71.5 innings for 2022.
With him holding batters to a .177 average in 2022, he’s a rising star the Cubs need to grab.
However, if the Cubs go with Luzardo, they get a star who’s put in more work during 2022 than Cabrera.
He made major improvements in 2022 over his previous seasons, going from a 6.87 ERA in 2021 to 3.32 in 2022.
His 120 strikeouts in 100.1 innings pitched while holding batters to a .191 average closely mirrors the numbers of Cabrera.
No matter which pitcher the Cubs pick, they need one of these young stars in Chicago for 2023.
