Cardinals Fan Makes An Unfortunate Prediction For 2023

The St. Louis Cardinals are heading into the 2023 season with a lot of question marks in their starting rotation.
If everybody remains healthy, it could be a solid rotation, as it features names such as Miles Mikolas, Adam Wainwright, Jack Flaherty, Jordan Montgomery, and Steven Matz.
But with Wainwright aging and Flaherty and Matz coming off injury-plagued seasons, success is far from a guarantee.
Fans are still frustrated with the lack of activity when it comes to adding starting pitchers.
The team let lefty Jose Quintana walk and have still yet to replace him.
On Twitter, a Cardinals fan made a depressing prediction that in spring training, a starting pitcher is going to go down with an injury, as has been the case every spring since 2011.
The Cardinals are likely going to have to put Dakota Hudson in the opening day rotation when the traditional SP spring training injury happens. I just don’t understand why they haven’t added another SP this off-season. #STLCards

Granted, Dakota Hudson can be a viable arm in the Cardinals rotation.
But he endured a disappointing 2022 season coming off of Tommy John surgery, losing his spot in the rotation by the end of the season.
This is one of the reasons why fans believe the team needs another starting pitcher.
The depth is there, but the quality of that depth will be tested early on.
At this point, it’s unlikely that the Cardinals try and pick up another starting pitcher until at least the trade deadline, meaning that a reunion with right-hander Michael Wacha likely isn’t in their plans.
But it would be wise to add another arm to strengthen the depth of the pitching staff and potentially alleviate the need to acquire a starter at the deadline.
