Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin had an unfortunate end to his 2021 campaign after suffering a torn ACL in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints.

Despite that incident, he still finished the season with 98 receptions for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns.

However, Bucs fans can feel relieved after he reported to practice earlier this month.

Likewise, it’s also a huge development that the team did not place him on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

However, they are taking caution by prohibiting him from full-contact practices.

But head coach Todd Bowles won’t hesitate to play Godwin once their medical staff clears him.

Tampa Bay Times reporter Joey Knight tweeted, “Sounds as if Bowles will turn Godwin loose once he’s cleared by trainers. ‘If he’s healthy and he’s 100%, and they give me full green light, you’ve got to go. I think with an injury like that, you’re never going to know until you get hit below the waist.’”

ACL injuries are no joke, and their recovery period may vary depending on the rehabilitation process.

That’s why the Buccaneers are not risking Godwin’s return until the team’s doctors know he can take the hits.

Luckily for the squad, their stacked wideout depth chart gives Godwin time to recover.

Buccaneers Wide Receiver Corps Is Scary

If in case Godwin won’t suit up in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, the Buccaneers still have Mike Evans, who had 1,035 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.

There’s also Russell Gage, who finished with 770 yards and four touchdowns for the Atlanta Falcons last year.

Tampa Bay also acquired five-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler Julio Jones.

Scotty Miller is still around if they need a dash of pure speed.

Meanwhile, tight end Cameron Brate could also become one of Tom Brady‘s top targets with Godwin sidelined.
